In this lesson, students will learn about the life of eight-year-old Sarah Goldman in the city of
Miedzyrzec, Poland. They will encounter her parents, brothers, and sisters, the school where she
studied, the everyday routines of children her age during the period before the war, and the life of
the Jewish community in the city. Later, they will hear about Sarah’s experiences during the war and
afterward.

For the teacher’s guide

In this lesson, the students will learn about the life of Sarah Goldman when she was 11 years old.
She will describe her life in the city of Miedzyrzec, Poland before the war, her parents, brothers and
sisters, the school where she studied, her everyday routine in the Jewish community in the city,
before she was forced to escape and hide from the Nazis. Later, they will hear about Sarah’s
experiences during the war and afterward, until she realized her dream of immigrating to Israel.

For the teacher’s guide

The students join Rivka on a brief interactive journey describing her childhood years, highlighting 3 periods:
Rivka’s life in her Jewish hometown prior to World War II, her experiences during World War II and finally her “aliya” (immigration) to the Land of Israel.

 The activity offers an opportunity to learn some of Rivka’s feelings, thoughts, hobbies, and fears, as she coped throughout each period.

Four young adults from the Jewish community in Thessaloniki share their experiences living in the
city prior to World War II, and what happened to them during the war and afterward.
The video is based on real events.

This interactive story highlights some of Zvi’s experiences, especially as a Jewish partisan during the holocaust and introduces us to his family.  Different periods of Zvi’s life are covered: Zvi’s life prior to the war, as a partisan, his “aliya” (immigration) to the Land of Israel on the day Israel was declared a state, building his family in Israel, and his thoughts recorded at the age of 95.
