The Importance of Preserving Memory

Personal Identity

The Responsibility to Remember

Middle & High School (Grades 7–12)

Photographs are the main traces that we have left from the Holocaust period. If only those photographs could speak...what would they tell us? What did these teenagers dream about? Did they fall in love? Were they afraid? Did they experience moments of happiness?

This activity invites students into an immersive experience, diving into the rich inner world of teens during the Holocaust. We add words to the photographs, read emotions and thoughts through body language and facial expressions, create an image that conveys a message, and write a poem that reflects reality. We discover that despite the hardships and the impossible reality they were forced to face, they were still teenagers: still dreaming, still falling in love, still curious, still filled with hopes and aspirations.
